We Are More Than Our Job

Our jobs often define us, providing us with an identity and a purpose beyond ourselves. We are given the opportunity to belong to something bigger than ourselves; to be a part of a collective effort in many cases, driven with a vision and a goal of improvement. Sure, we may find our deeper identity in other activities or purposes – spirituality being a very appropriate example. For example, parenting, I have twin boys that light up my heart!. Or marriage, my bride of 15 years still takes my breath away. Still, when we are introduced, we often answer the question of, “What do you do?” with a description of our work.

I’ve been doing this very thing for a long time. For many years, I was a Newspaper guy. Before that, I was a Sailor, serving in the United States Navy in the 1980’s. More recently, I’ve been working as a Principle and C-Level Executive with a company I helped form; Ad Victoriam Solutions (AdVic). I have to pause and say that I’m very proud of the organization, and what we’ve accomplished over the last few years! We have amazing people, who do amazing work for amazing customers. It gets my adrenaline going and drives me through the day! For more than 4 years, it has been my answer to, “What do you do?”

Seal_of_the_Georgia_National_GuardHowever, there has been another answer to that question, and it’s an answer that has suddenly grown louder and more demanding than the others. In addition to AdVic, I also have been serving as a Chaplain in the Georgia Army National Guard for the past 9 years. I’ve been called for hurricane duty a couple of times. The units I’ve been assigned to have seen inclement weather duty during Atlanta’s infamous snow days. We’ve sent Soldiers to Central and South America, Eastern Europe, Asia, and to our own border. But, with few exceptions, I’ve been away from my family for no longer than 3 weeks at a time. That has changed.

Answering the Call

Recently, I was recalled to an extended period of Active Duty and am now serving alongside 2,000 other Soldiers from the National Guard. We are training for a Combat Deployment in a distant land. Instead of working through Custom Formulas on the Salesforce platform, I’m now learning family names and faces for my Soldiers.

Over the coming months, I plan to write a semi-regular blog article detailing some of the work our men and women do on a daily basis. This will be decidedly less technology-drive, even though I’ll likely include pieces of cool stuff when I can. I have to be away from my desk for about a year. I won’t always have access to the Internet, but I do want to paint a picture for friends and customers, giving insight to a world many of us simply never see outside Hollywood.  I invite you to join the journey with me…

Even as I write this, I look forward to returning home and joining in the next round of upgrades / sales / implementations / challenges as Brian Mize, CTO. Until then, though, I’m honored to be living life as CH(CPT) Mize, Chaplain, 1st Squadron, 108th Cavalry Regiment.

nfant© Feeding Solution was Nominated for the Impact Pediatrics Award

Successfully feeding a baby isn’t as easy as it sounds. In fact, it’s a complex skill that infants learn after they are born. It is surprising to many that infants, up to 70% of premature infants and 10% of infants born full term, struggle with feeding.

The brain of a premature baby is not fully developed, which can make feeding a challenge. Gilson Capilouto, Ph.D., a Speech and Language Pathologist and Co-Founder of nfant© Feeding Solution, worked with infants in the NICU assisting premature babies who struggled with eating. She observed that the clinical decisions regarding how to help an infant who was struggling with eating was subjective, and it took many trials over time to progress the infant on their pathway to thrive.

With the creation of nfant© Feeding Solution, the first FDA cleared IoT device for the NICU developed by NFANT Labs, clinical intervention for feeding no longer had to be subjective, but could be based on real time biofeedback and objective metrics. To aggregate the metrics, NFANT Labs partnered with Ad Victoriam Solutions who created the mobile app, web portal and data services to capture tens of thousands of data points in real time for each feeding session.

Launched approximately three years ago, the nfant© Feeding Solution is now available in the NICU’s of more than 15 hospitals and is helping clinicians transition premature infants to independent oral feeding. In recognition of the nfant© Feeding Solution success, NFANT Labs has been selected as a 2018 finalist for the South by Southwest Impact Pediatrics Award.

While NFANT Labs is hoping to win the prestigious Impact Pediatrics Award, they are also interested in networking with hospitals at the event so more clinicians can use the feeding solution to speed the assessment and clinical intervention process for infant feeding. Today, infants don’t leave the hospital until their hearing and vision are checked. NFANT Labs hopes that one day, all infants are screened for feeding trouble as well to ensure that infants are in an optimal position to thrive.

The scoring system is broken up into two major areas: customer success and expertise.

Partners are awarded Specializations and Masters based on demonstrated expertise by submitting customer success stories, projects and references.

  • Certified Integration Architecture Designer
  • Certified Platform Developer I

Another area is consulting. Consultant certifications are earned as a company shows its ability to successfully design and implement solutions that contribute to long-term customer success. Possible certifications include sales cloud consultant and service cloud consultant.

Additional points may be earned with expanded knowledge certifications. These may include any of the following:

The Salesforce Pardot Partner Program is strategically designed to allow only the most knowledgeable and skilled firms.  In addition, they ensure that the partnering firm is a customer-centric company by requiring CSAT’s (Customer Satisfaction Surveys) and Customer Stories along with holding a Pardot Consultant Certification.  The certification is extremely important as it showcases a firm’s knowledge at not only implementing the solution but providing marketing strategy and best practices.
